What is GMAT?

GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is a standardized aptitude test possessing pre-defined syllabus required for admission in MBA courses in world’s leading Business Schools. GMAT is a testifying attempt to learn how well the appearing student will perform if admitted.

The GMAT evaluates the verbal, quantitative, reasoning and analytical writing skills of the candidates. GMAT, being a computer-adaptive exam, determines the student’s ability by evaluating answers of the previously tested questions. As the student proceeds with the exam, the correct or incorrect answer given in the previous question determines the difficulty level of the next question asked. Therefore, the difficulty level of questions varies in consonance with the number of correct or incorrect answers given by the candidate.

The GMAT exam is structured in four sections namely Verbal, Quantitative, Integrated Reasoning and Analytical Writing Assessment.

GMAT scoring is based on five evaluative parts

  • Verbal Scaled Score (on a scale from 0 to 60)
  • Quantitative Scaled Score (on a scale from 0 to 60)
  • Total Scaled Score (on a scale from 200 to 800)
  • Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) Score (on a scale from 0 to 6)
  • Integrated Reasoning Score (on a scale from 1 to 8)

A candidate’s total GMAT score is based on a scaled accumulation of verbal and quantitative scores. The AWA and Integrated Reasoning are allotted independent scores. The scores of AWA and IR do not affect the total score.
